EXPERIENCE

Cristian has worked in several international dance companies such as Tango a Tierra, Estampas Porteñas, Tango Fire, Tango Metropolis…

¨ My time with Tango Fire made me learn the ¨magical tricks¨, the ¨special effects¨ which make the audience burst in applause and bravos… What does ¨fire¨ mean to you…?
But I learnt much more than that  - I performed in theaters of all kinds (private ones, world famous ones, enormous ones, tiny ones, with all kind of measures, floors, technical equipment, different audiences, etc…)
I took until 20 planes per month, travelled 19hs on bus and performed the same day, I went from freezing Canada to a beach hotel on  the Bermudas, I did 9 shows in 4 days  - for weeks….
I did a show the same day one of our technicians got shot in South Africa….

Tango Metropolis was a different experience with more things to learn…

I worked together with some of the best tango musicians alive - Daniel Binelli, Cristian Zarate, ... they made me realize the importance of the interaction between musicians and dancers, music and movement. These musicians played for us, watching us dance, interpreting our movements in their music, while we were expressing their music with our bodies.

Lorca tango was an extraodinary and unique experience - a drama, interpreted by dancers... it made me dig deep beyond the surface, here I learnt how to play a character, to embody someone else in the whole play, evereything - the movements, music, facial expression ... are submitted to telling the story.... Here your role is not (only) to shine in technical perfection but to shine in the embodiment and interpretation of your role.

Further experiences to add are the fact that I also was invited as a Judge to  the World Championships  and the affilate Competitions for Tango Salon and Stage Tango in 2010.

However, my curiosity, ideas, and he nonstopping creative thrieve
made me want to know more: I studied stage direction, got some knowledge of lighning design, artistical production...
and so I started working as a coreographer, did artistic direction and coaching for professional couples  and also directed my own proyects …

Several female dancers marked my dancing investigation:
Working with Alejandra Gutty in Soulfoot pulled the trigger  - I started to loose myself in the profound waters of ¨making your movements count¨... what are movements, if they don´t tell us a story, if they make us feel something...?
Together with Melina Brufman, I started to investigate how to express words in movement… poems, texts,… which we finally presented in ¨Cuando dos se besan¨.

Finally, with my current couple,  Mika, we have covered the ¨show language¨  and the ¨special effects¨…. working in the show ¨Señor Tango¨.
We have shared the experience of performing 7 days a week, without free days for 1 year...
we know what it` s like to perform, when you are tired, sick, with 39 degrees or bronchitis, we know the meaning of ¨the show must go on¨…
but we have continuously been searching for more… to improve technically and  looking for our dance to count, to be more than movements...
